Hitler and Siblings Taken from Parents
Last month we saw our community react to the news story of the unfortunately named 3-year-old Adolf Hitler who was denied a personalized birthday cake. Many felt that naming a child "Adolf Hitler" was essentially child abuse, with some going so far as to say the children should be removed from this home. The tyke, along with his two younger sisters, were removed by New Jersey's Division of Youth and Family Services, but it was unknown what, if any, charges prompted the action.
Our Playgroup moms are sharing their thoughts on the latest news in this saga:
"If they only took the kid because of his unfortunate name... that's ridiculous! If there was actual abuse in the home, then it is good for the children. While the parents seem unconventional, and a little strange, that doesn't make them bad parents." -- hoover07
"In my opinion, naming your child after one of the worst, most inhumane people in history, and naming another child 'Arayan Nation' is a form of child abuse. And that makes them bad parents... Family services doesn't remove children for having bad names, if that were the case, half of Hollywood would have lost custody already. There has to be something going on in that home." -- jenthebrat
"I personally view the names as a form of abuse. Before seeing this I have often scratched my head in wonder and think... 'where did people come up with that name?' It's very clear where they came up with those names and purely inspired by hate." -- valerie_1010
What do you think? Are extreme and vulgar names a form a child abuse and should parents be held accountable? Sound off here!

I cannot imagine the kids were taken away just because of their names but I bet the parents' behavior regarding the cake got enough attention so their household was under a magnifying glass, which gave CPS an excuse to pry into their business and take their kids. The parents could have just put Adolf on the cake and instead insisted on Adolf Hitler. They were trying to be provocative and now it bit them on their behind.
Good. Maybe more parents will use their brains and not take out their stupidity on their children from this.
I'm split between the two. I don't think that its necessarily "child abuse," but perhaps a lack of poor judgement. Some parent's feel the need to give a child a name with meaning.....and I can't see what his parent's were thinking. Weren't his parent two lesbian women? I couldn't tell from the picture on Good Morning America.
A lot of these silly names have no meaning at all. Trig, Track....what could they possibly mean? Nothing. They are just the parents attempts at being pretentious.
I think it is none of our business. If the kid hates he can petition the court to change later in life.
I hope that there was no abuse for the sake of the kids but Child and family services has gotten out of control in many states. They need some serious checks and balances.
i think it may be a form of third-party abuse... yes, these kids could change their names, at 18, after being most likely in public schools for 13 years where the other kids learn who adolf hitler was. can you imagine what that poor boy will be going through? you know he will be at the very least harrassed, and it is because of the poor decision of the parents. they would, in my opinion, be responsible for anything this poor boy would go through in school.
i wouldn't give my son any name that began with the letter b because i didn't want him to go through the life with the initals "b.s."
poor kids
stupidity isn't against the law; and i think that child services have forgotten what their job is supposed to be. child services, when recieving ANY report of childabuse, wil hound the parents until they find some reson to take the children away, even if the accusation was untrue to begin with. having a stupid name is not child abuse, if you ask me, but parents should really THINK about what they are naming their children; lest they turn out like a guy i know by the name "Stan Will Swallow". (let me tell you; he's NOT a pretty picture.)
