Sheet Cakes for Hitler
Ok, we see a lot of outrageous news stories being discussed on the iVillage message boards, but I think that this one definitely, ahem, takes the cake. Parents of a Pennsylvania tyke are shocked and offended that the local grocery store wouldn't pipe their 3-year-old's name on his birthday cake. Did I mention they named their son Adolf Hitler Campbell? ShopRite representatives state that they "deserve the right not to print anything on the cake that we deem to be inappropriate." So the Campbell family did what any family would do: they took matters into their own hands and had their icing inquiry handled at Walmart. I'm not even sure where to begin commenting on this one, so I'll let our trusty iVillagers take over from here:
"Personally, I think giving the child that name is an act of child abuse. I'm glad the ShopRite store stood their ground." -- jpo72

But not everyone thinks the store should have refused a request for a child's cake:

Exactly why some people don't deserve to be parents.
I just can't imagine growing up with either of those names saddled on me.Poor kids!
this is why i think there should be parenting licenses. people like that shouldnt be allowed to breed.
What parent saddles their child with that name. They obviously knew that using this name would cause shock and that issues would arise for their child for the rest of his life over their want to ‘give a name that no other child would ever have’.
Also, did anyone catch this bit in the article:
“Karen Meleta, a spokeswoman for ShopRite, defended the supermarket. She said the Campbells had similar requests denied at the same store the last two years and said Heath Campbell previously had asked for a swastika to be included in the decoration.”
My two cents after reading that part of the article….. the parents want to cause a stir for this store. Why would they go back over and over again and request a cake from a store that had denied them in the past if it wasn’t to make waves?
I just can't believe the parents were offended, they had to have seen it coming. Unfortunately, that name will always have a place in history for the wrong reason, but choosing that name for a child is absolutely evil, can you imagine what they will have to go through in life because their parents made such a foolish choice.
I TOTALLY agree with what everyone has said. I think this IS sick and IS child abuse. OMG.
I have to say when I read Madisonsmom's post I ACTUALLY laughed out loud!
Happy Birth Adolf, I can't say WHY that stikes me SO funny, but it just does.
I hope these childen will eventually get taken away by these sick parents.
