Obama is not African American. He is Bi-racial. This means he is not the first African American President. Remember both his parents are not African American. No one should have voted for him or McCain based on race.

Crisis averted! lol

I am feeling rather celebratory this morning! I feel like hanging an American Flag outside my house for the first time in my life. I am proud to be an American today for the first time. I feel encouraged, hopeful and liberated.

I'm tired of it already. News reporters that can't get it straight. And your show said it too.

His mother is probably up in heaven saying.....hey, what about me, I gave birth to him....he is half white. And his grandparents that raised him most of the time, I wonder how they feel hearing that their grandson is African American.

Spare me, he's bi-racial, he's not from Africa, wasn't even born there.

I like Obama...happy that he is President, but spare me the untrue comments from your reporters about his background.

I think it would be better that they just refer to him as "President-Elect", and leave race out of it.

Would they be referring to McCain as our 44th white President if he won? I think not.

Sure, his racial heritage plays a part, but it's not his race which got him elected.

Agreed. Race and making history is governing the real issues. America voted him there not a race or ethnic gruup. Now would real intelligent people look at how he will govern! His supporters should look up what it mean to be left or right wing. Some says he will govern from the center! What does that mean! Too late now but will his "re-distribution" of wealth really pay off! Or will he send us who dislike the liberal beliefs packing like Castro. I just want people to look at the real issues and forget the race.

PS not that McCain was different!

They are on the same sinking boat different sides!

I think it is truly momentous that Obama was elected President of the United States. He IS African-American. He is also White. And in regards to Tess' comment above, I'm sure his mother in heaven is saying "I'm so proud of my son."

This country has come such a long way. I am finally proud to be an American! I think that it is great he is being referred to as the first African-American president. It implies that if there is a first, there will be subsequent ones! Would everyone be so upset if McCain/Palin won and people were saying Palin is the first female Vice President? I seriously doubt it.

Let's be proud of our country and what we've done. Stop bickering about Obama's race and whether or not we should call him the first African-American President. Please.

Wow, I find it a bit disturbing that people are just now becoming proud to be american.....Just my opinion. Don't get all crazy on me. What is it about Barack Obama that makes you proud to be an american??? Curious...

I agree we should always be proud to be Americans. People are fighting everyday to come to this country. We have our problems but nothing compared to other countries. This is the best. Obama has a lot to accomplish and I wonder if he goofs everyone dealing with him will be afraid to point it out because of his race. I think had he not won the blacks wouldn't have been so nice. All heck would have broken lose for days if not weeks. Lets be honest no matter what he stands for ole Oprah would have voted for the color over anyone else. Watched her show and couldn't believe how she talked. If a white person said some of these things their show would be off the tv.

I am very happy that Obama is our President!! Im not saying that because of his race or what ever but because what he stands for. If McCain was elected then the US would be jsut as worse off as it is now with Bush. I truly feel bad for Obama he has alot to do as far as fixing our county but on top of that no one can stop worrying about what color he is (who cares)!!! I realy think this was the worst time for him to become president because no matter how hard he trys we are going to go into a depression because of Bush. And everyone is going to say that it is Obama's fault because he is the president and he had no experience when he came to office. And if the depression doese hit then when its time to elect a president all the people that went for McCain are going to say i told you so. but in fact no matter who would have became presidant it would hve happend to them.

First of all, leave Elizabeth alone!! If you want to bitch about someone, try bitching about that old harpie Joy Behar. She is suppossed to be a comedian? That IS funny, because I don't find her to be the least bit funny. Just an angry, hateful person. I am so sick of all the hoopla surrounding the election of Obama, Our "First black President". Did everyone forget the man is half white?(Listening, Oprah?) this man did not part the Red Sea, and I seriously doubt he can walk on water. I also have a question for all those idiots sitting on their asses, collecting their checks, and welfare, while sitting in their government housing, did it ever occur to any of you to put down that damn crack pipe and get a job and stop depending on the govenment to take care of you? In my opinion, Obama won because of the liberal media, and nothing else. How could a virtual unknown, with very little experience, win over a experinced leader, who is also a decorated war hero? John McCain should have won, and he certainly had my vote. I am proud to say he carried our state!! Experience should count more than the skin tone. It is sad fact that most people voted for him based on his skin color alone. I don't hear anyone calling these people racist. Oh, I forgot, that is not politically correct!!! To all you people who (in the words of jesus jr., otherwise known as Oprah),were vibrating with excitement, Let's see how you feel in a couple of years. I hope I am wrong, Our country needs strong leadership now, and I hope he can deliver. If he does, I will be the first to admit I was wrong. Good luck America and may God bless

"Obama won because of the liberal media, and nothing else." That is what conservatives always say when they lose. I live in a red state where the media most certainly is NOT liberal and you would have been hard pressed indeed to find anything positive about him.

And what makes you assume that "liberals" are so stupid that they blindly vote according to the media? I don't think many people do that, especially in America where we are proud of our ability to make choices.

I will refrain from commenting on the "wealth redistribution" comments. Who is believing rhetoric presented by the media?? In my part of the world, those shouts of "socialism" came from that same media that you are villifying.

The fact that Obama is of color is historic, just like it would have been had Palin become the first female vp. That is something we should all be proud of.

It is time to unite and try to turn this economy around and being bitter losers will do nothing toward that aim. Even McCain recognized that.

In response to Misselle: First of all, you have to be either blind or deaf to think that the media, throughout this entire process has been fair to the Republican party. Not once did I hear Katie Couric go after Joe Biden or Barack Obama as she did Sarah Palin. Conservatives say this, not because they lost, but because it is plain hard fact. To say that the media does not somehow influence the way people think and form opinions is untrue. If that were the case, why were millions of dollars spent? It is through the media outlets such as television, and print, that we get to know the candidates, and their platforms, in order to form an opinion in the first place. When they are so biased in their reporting, it is simple fact that this will influence the way some people think. It does not make them "stupid", just human. Yes this election is historic, I am not arguing that point. He is our President, at least for the next 4 years, and I will fully support him. That does not mean I have to like it, but it certainly does not make me bitter either. The shouts of socialism did not come from the media, but directly from the mouths of Obama and Biden. What do you think "spread the wealth" means? Please, wake up, the media played a huge role in this election from the very beginning, every step was choreographed carefully to ensure the vote swung in the direction of the liberals. To say otherwise is jsut plain naive. And one last point I feel I need to make is, my vote was not based on race. I would have voted for Obama if his views had not been so far to the left. He was one of the most liberal senators in Washington, and when you throw the phrase "redistribtion of wealth around, well, I just had to run the other way...quickly! I do not consider myself to be a wealthy person, but when you talk about raising the taxes on people making over $250,000.00 (or was it $42,000.00, no wait a minute, could it have been $200,000.00?, oh, who the hell knows, that figure sure changed alot over the past few months), I have to pause and think, these are the very same people who own businesses, they are the ones WORKING to earn a living, and paying salaries, these are the people who HIRE other people, they own factories and industries! When they are taxed into oblivion, won't that cause them to close up shop, thereby causing the unemployeement lines to grow? or maybe, they'll move their businesses abroad, where they can better afford to pay the taxes. Tell me, How is That going to benefit the American citizen?
