Baby Zuma Arrives to Buzz
Last month I wrote about the wild sentence-name bestowed on a girl in New Zealand, and you sure had a lot to say about the business of naming. Not to be outdone, Gwen Stefani and hubby Gavin Rossdale have welcomed another bouncing baby boy to their family. And that boy will be bouncing along to the name of...
Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale.
Yes, take a moment with me and let that sink in a bit: Zuma. Nesta. Rock. Sort of just rolls off the tongue, doesn't it? And just think when that kid is in trouble on the playground and gets the full mom-is-calling-out-your-full-name treatment. The kids are either going to gear up for a full-scale taunting or be awfully jealous. (Probably more the latter because, hey, mom is Gwen Stefani, after all!)
They're reacting to this new celeb baby name on the Baby Names board and giving it the full analysis, wondering where in the heck the name Zuma came from:
"What are stars doing with these baby names? So many of them are crazy!" -- jasey24
"I heard two reports, one saying the baby was a boy and one saying it was a girl? Either way, Zuma reminds me too much of the malt beverage 'Zima,' so I think of beer." -- gagesmom2006
"I have no idea WHAT they were thinking with Zuma. I think the first middle name was some sort of shout-out to Bob Marley (as was Kingston... Jamaica) but I have no idea what Zuma is, other than a video game." -- helloimstevie
"Maybe it has some significance for her -- was she ever in Nigeria? Zuma Rock is a large monolith located in Niger State, just north of Abuja, along the main road from Abuja, the capital of Nigeria to Kaduna." -- annee2008
They're also dishing about Zuma on the Military Wives board, in their usual wickedly funny style:
"I kind of like the name. But then I liked it when my grandmother named her Chihuahua Zuma as well." -- izzyandalexsmommy
"The only good thing about all these crazy names is at least they'll be the only one in their class with that name... I doubt there's gonna be Zuma R., Zuma S., Zuma W." -- cl-amermae
So what do you think? Will Zuma overtake more conventional names like Jacob or Emily for the most popular baby name in coming years? Why do we care? Is it any of our business after all? Check in and let me know your reaction to the name Zuma and the whole name game in general!

Who knows what goes through the minds of those with more money than sense! Honestly- maybe she heard her mom sing the song- "Come on and Zoom- Zoom- Zuma- Zoom-" and got stuck on stupid!
I believe that its up to the parents to name their child and with todays society and baby names, I doubt it would be a problem to the outside world. I think most people are more apt to naming their children "strange" and "erotic" names to be different and not many parents choose simple names such as Jessica, Jennifer, Matthew or Jacob anymore. I don't know why it has changed so much in the past 10 years, but if you don't accept change then you are in for a suprise!
Actually, the reason they gave Zuma the name they did is...
Zuma is the name of the beach in California where Gavin had an "epiphany" about his music career, and Nesta is Bob Marley's real first name.....so they had a reason, it wasn't just because they're stupid and rich.
