The State of the Union
In his second-to-last State of the Union address last night, President Bush called for legislation addressing energy consumption, immigration, health care, education and other needs; reiterated his new strategy, including increased troop deployments, for Iraq; and, interestingly, called for reduced gas consumption. (And you wanted to watch American Idol instead? Ha!) So, what did you think of his speech?
Before President Bush’s State of the Union address, “nearly two-thirds of Americans appear to have given up on success in Iraq and also on his presidency,” according to this article by NBC news. And when we asked you all about Bush's plan for increased deployments in Iraq a few weeks ago, you responded in droves, leaving comments ranging the spectrum from “The president doesn't know what he is doing" to "Our president has a tough job... He is doing the best that he can."
Did the president's speech last night make you feel differently about the course in Iraq, the economy, healthcare, or the state of the union in general?

this man is a coward. He never saw combat- in fact he dodged it, yet he wants to send more of our loved ones over there to fight his dirty war. Shame on him
Bush is not in tuned with the people he is supposed to be representing and leading. He feels that he knows best. Which he has shown is clearly not true.
The Iraq war was always Bush's war. I beleive he brought us in under knowingly false info, now he is trying to change this to a war of ideology - as he called it in the state of the union address. We will never change the way Muslims think by raging war - as experienced during the many crusades fought in the name of religion throughout history. We may never change the way they think and maybe we should'nt try, but may we never sit by complacently and let them try to change us. The president is only in touch with his own agenda, not that of our county.
Bush is NOT listening to the American people - has he noticed that minimum wage hasn't changed in 10 years? No.
Has he noticed that the working americans or "middle class" people are rapidly falling into the poverty level? NO.
He needs to wake up and focus on the HOME FRONT americans !
The radical muslims want to control the whole world. They will kill anyone who opose them, even other muslims. They want total control everyones lives and you will be living in huts and caves.
They wish for no cars,tv's, radio's nothing. All women to be wrapped up and only usefull for sexual purposes.
Basically going back to dark ages.
Look what they did in Afganastan, Herd hundreds in to a soccer field and forsed a man to shot his brother, his brother was found with a radio.
Maybe he should be more interested in America and the American people than those in other countries. When did the President of the United States become The President of International Meddling?? There is so much to be done here and its not getting done or even acknowledged, the foundation of America is crumbling people, and no one is even standing up to defend it, what happened to patriotism and the love of our country. This is our country we need to stand up and be heard.
What a joke! I can't believe a man without any understanding of what it's like to have children overseas is leading this country! Bring them home, NOW!
President Bush doesn't pay attention to what is really going on. He has this ideal picture in his head of the way he wants this war to be and it just isn't reality. He needs to open his eyes and see what he is doing. I have known so many people who backed him at the beginning of the war, joined the military because they felt it was what they should do...and are now praying for the day they can finally be done with their tour of service.
When you are losing the will of the soldiers fighting your war....you need to reevaluate things Mr. President!
The President doesn't know what he is doing. The world is becoming more and more anti-American because of his lack of understanding foreign policy issues and how to act accordingly. Illegal immigration, minimum wage, health care, education, etc. That's what he should be focusing and bringing the troops home..soon.. He should not be spending billions of dollars on a war that we are obviously losing. This is Vietnam all over again, just worse. He should stop instigating against Iran and North Korea. Their respective leaders are nut jobs and they will not hesitate to hurt us. Hopefully he will be the last BUSH in the White House.
Bush is clueless. If ever there was a president who needed to be impeached, it is Bush. There never should have been impeachment proceedings for Clinton's unfaithfulness -- though his behavior is not condoned -- impeachment for his affair with Monica was silly and a waste of the country's time. However, Bush's offenses warrant impeachment. It has been proven that he lied about the neeed to go to war, and he is responsible for the lives being lost due his taking us to war in Iraq against the advice of solid advisors. Once again, he is stubbornly going against the advice of some of the most respected and trusted advisors and against the will of the people and sending 21,000 of our men and women into a situation that has deteriorated into civil was and ethnic fighting that is beyond our control. Bush messed uo royally and he is continuing to mess up.
Bush's speech didn't change my feelings regarding the war, the economy, or anything else. I know that it's probably true that things would be far, far worse if we left right now, but it's high time the Iraqis take the brunt of the responsibility for their situation themselves, rather than continuing to use the US as a crutch. Stop telling us we can win, and get our people home.
Step aside George so Hillary can get things straightened up!
You may not agree with everything about Bush and his decisions. There have been a lot of mistakes. But to label him clueless and ignorant is very ignorant. Our enemies are watching and counting on us to back down. That is what we have been doing since the Vietnam War. They know it. If we do not pursue them and get rid of them, they will live to fight another day. Instead of Iraq, it will be on US soil. Maybe we need a wakeup call. If we back out now, they will follow us home. Who will we blame then, the American President or the American People.
Most of you people don't even really know what is going on in this world and so have no clue on how do deal with it. Saddam did have nuclear weapons and plenty of enriched uranian was found when we first went there. Maybe the media wants you to forget that. Stop letting the media decide what you think and do your own research. Watch CNN and Fox news, look stuff up on the internet. We are at war wether you like it or not and if they pull out our troops it will bring the war right back to american soil. No matter how you feel about how things are going our President deserves the repsect of every American, he is an honorable man who does what he thinks is right without caving into political pressure. If we let polotics run our country we will be in a lot more trouble.
Wake up poeple the only person Hilary Clinton cares about is Hilary Clinton. I would be embaressed if she became the first women president in history. We have never lost a battle in this war so why does everyone keep saying we are losing. It may be a tough one but if the enemy sees that half the country wants to give up it just gives them more strength to keep fighting. Let us be united in the fact that we believe our men on the ground can accomplish there mission when given the help and support they need.
Bush can't be gone soon enough. If his mission was to be hated by more people (both American and otherwise) than any other president in history, then "mission accomplished." Bring on O'Bama!
BUSH: The worst disaster to hit this country! 'Nuff said...
You guys are ignorant to think that Bush doesn't know what he's doing. Would you be able to handle such a nightmare of a situation perfectly?! Cut the guy some slack- he's human. He's doing a great job for such a tough situation. I am proud that he's my president.
You people are crazy! people like you are the reason the US is going to hell in a handbasket. I would hate to see the kind of decisions you people would make if you were president. At least Bush is a man that stands up for what is right. You people woud rather just let any country do whatever they wanted to us and just say ok. Are you really dumb enough to believe that those countries don't want us all dead. Get in the real world. And God help us if Hilary or obama gets in there. I would never vote for a woman for president and I am a woman. What a joke that would be. We would be attacked from every direction. Why not just open the gate and let all the terrorist in.
AND HOW MANY OF YOU VOTED FOR HIM?? I AM PROUD TO SAY NOT ME!!! THOSE WHO DIDN'T SAW ALL OF THIS FROM THE BEGINNING!
I respect President Bush for the stand he is making against terror. What alot of people fail to understand is that this radical muslim ideology is one of hate and destruction. They are sitting back laughing at those of us making fun of the President because with each poke at Bush, the radical muslim terroists get closer to their goal of destroying America. They despise us and all that we stand for. If Bush had not taken a stand against them who knows what would have happened to us.
Those that say that we should pull out Iraq because then we would all be totally safe are just plain ignorant. Why do these fools think we have not been attacked since 9/11? It is not because the Muslim terrorists have given up. It is because Bush has taken such a firm stance against them and has instituted such strong protections in America against terrosists. Wake up you crazy liberals and smell the coffee!!!! Just remember that each time you make fun of Bush a Muslim terrosists smiles with pleasure and satisfaction.
Hey "p" you need to wake up, they are coming in every direction....all of our NATIONAL GUARD is in IRAQ. Seems that maybe you should get in touch with the facts and stop listening the jaggon from everyone else, because you have no idea what you are saying there is more to the story than sticking up for the COWBOY!!
Katherine...Well said.
And surely your answer for that is not to back down and give them free rein. I would hope you have a better plan then that since you are so much more informed then I am.
I'll bet that the lack of healthcare is killing more Americans than Muslim Extremists.
God Help us and our troops. This counrty needs a political ENEMA!
"p", give who free rein? Bush? That came to a screaming halt yesterday. As for the terrorist, NO that's not the point. You are comparing "plans" which aren't even an issue in the conversation.
For "P" and anyone else supporting Bush. Keep in mind that Bush tossed the rock at the hive, the world alerted him not to go in...but no, he did as he pleased and now we are going to get stung. Unfortunatly we have to keep going with this, the US no longer has a choice. Thanks Bush.
100 hours of Congress and we have already seen gas prices drop 50 cents, minimum wage issue back, pharmacuetical companies trimmin their fat and hopes that everyone will have health care. BIG business is skirming NOW!!! LOL
democrates have always tossed the white flag. korea, vietnam, and now iraq the second. 3ooo soldiers is bad but 3000 civilians is worse. If you want more americans killed here raise the white flag now. Democrates also voted for it.
I saw a news item on the internet about a year ago - I think it was AP about some audio tapes that had Saddam's top Aides discussing where to hide the WMDs. Why was this not front page news? Suddenly the media disappears and doesn't report a story that goes against their Liberal ideas and war bashing ideology?! The average American person believes most of what they hear and see on TV or read in the paper. It makes me sick to think that news people who have a responsibility to be fair and impartial in their reporting can sway so many by distorting or not reporting all of the facts. There needs to be some accountability. Why don't you show the people in Iraq who are grateful that we are helping them, why not the schools that are being built, why not show the good that we are doing? Why not publish a list of all of the terrorist plots we have foiled. I challenge you, the media, to report ALL the facts, not just the ones that go along with your beliefs. Can you do it?
WHY send in MORE troops, the 150,000 that are there are the basis for the increased violence? Sending more will only make them more determined and crafty at destroying them. By the way, who is guarding our back door at HOME?? Did you forget about US?
That is real smart, just keep sending them in for the slaughter....meanwhile, they are creeping in through Mexico (easy enough, as we know), Canada (easier yet) and who is going to be here to help our TAX paying citizen's?
They are in a civil war and ALWAYS have been....we need to slowly broaden our perimeter and back off.
why is he not getting impeached? if the whole country doesnt support what he does and there is overwhelming evidence why is nothing being done...
After 9/11 I was all for us going over there! Seeing those towers fall made me so angry..to think that someone would actually come here and attack us on our own land!! But now I'm not sure what should be done....I do feel however that it has been to long and to many lives have been taken!
All talk, no action. That's what all of his State of the Union's consist of. Just Talk. I think I speak for most of the country when I say that we're ready for change, big change....GO HILLARY!!!
Bush, has had three yrs of losing young peoples lives, and nothing good has happened. Let's stop the war and IMPEACH BUSH. w.w.2 vet.
When Clinton was in office, wasn't Hillary's big thing healthcare??? She couldn't get it done when her husband was in office so wasn't that all "just talk"?
I want our troops home just as much as anyone else. I hate hearing how many died each day on the news but won't pulling out now just make things worse? I think it's horrible the way so many people are attacking Bush. I'm sure the President has a little more info on the situation then the American people are let in on. Personally, I think we need to trust him a little.
BUSH IS NOT FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, ONLY FOR HIMSELF, I CANNOT WAIT UNTILL HIS TERM IS UP, WE NEED A STRONG LEADER THAT HAS OUT BEST INTEREST.
why does everyone say bush doesn't listen to the people he goes by my views and the views of most of my freinds and my family. new york and la and massachuets is not the only places in america. a large marjorty of the country is christain people who want what is best for this country. They thought bush was going to lose the last election from the poles becuase they polled liberal places but when the election came the conservations from the south and small towns came out and voted and bush won. if a democrat had been in office when 9-11 came we would probly been dead right now. backing down doesn't get you anywhere with bullies. and terrorist are the world's bullies. i pray for sake of all of our lives that another republican gets voted in next term. i wish so much that condalezza rice runs. Anyways just becuase you and your freinds in your little part of the country (the few parts that are publisized) can't related to bush and his ideas. i can and many other people at least recongnize and respect this.
I am just asking for all those critical of Bush...what would you have done? Probably nothing and guess what.... you would have disagreed with that too. Every president has those that don't like them no matter what he does and I am sure the next one, whoever it is, will be no different. There will never be a president that satisfies all the people. We are a nation divided no matter what. That is our biggest weakness.
Hilary doesn't have the American peoples best interest in mind only her own. If Bush only cared about himslef he would have stopped this when he got political pressure instead of sticking his ground and doing the right thing. I guess people have short memories of when Bush first started talking about the war he said many times that it was going to be a very long and hard war. I don't know what biased news station you people watch but check the facts for yourself. Bush had inteligence from our country and many other countries around the world that said Saddam was a threat. The people who were telling him not to go there was the UN. Yes the UN the same people that let Saddam get as far as he did with warning after warning and no action. If they did there job in the first place we wouldn't be in this situation. As for Bush throwing a rock at the beehive, wake up they have been trying to start a war with us for years. How about you read about all the other times American interests and soldiers were attacked
We were attacked way before 9/11 but it wasn't on american soil so no one paid attention or did anything about it including our president at the time, Clinton. Guess what that took american lives also. War is war infortunetly people die, just becuase that is the main thing the news reports talk about doesn't mean that is all that happens. It is about time people stop listening to what the news says and do research themselves at least if you are going to complain you will have all the facts
Iraq has been in trouble since the beginning of time. Why does Bush think he is going to change that. Let them fight their own battles. We have our own battles here at home that should be looked after. Let is daughters go over there and fight. They do allow women in the sevice now.
If someone says 'the liberal media' one more time, I will just scream. Parroting out dogmatic taglines only demonstrates that you can't think for yourself. RUPERT MURDOCH is in control of the majority of the media and he is not 'liberal'.
Wake up, it's RATINGS and money that drive 'the media'. It is also money that drives most politicians. Most of them are old, rich white men who don't know anything about any of us unless we contributed to their last campaign.
And to state that you would never vote for a woman. Shame on you. Judging someone based on their gender is SEXIST, regardless of whether you are a member of that sex.
During the time period that suffragettes were attempting to gain the vote for women, MANY women of the day said that a woman's place was in the home and not voting.
Thank you for bringing us right back to the 1900s. (sarcasm intended)
Times are tough but blaming Bush for everything doesn't make things any easier. His advisors aren't telling him not to send more troops it's some people in congress and the senate. Most of those people are led by politics. It is generals and his advisors who came up with this plan not Bush alone. So who should he listen too? Please stop going off of what people told you or what you think you heard on TV. We pray for our leaders to make the right decisions and to keep our troops as safe as possible, you may not think it helps but it is our right.
All I have to say, is I would never want to be in his shoes. And I'd like to see what all you people would do (those of you that bash him & complain). I can only imagine the mental stess he's under, and it doesn't help when 1/2 of America is calling him a moron. I give him a lot of credit for doing what he thinks is best to keep us safe, even if it has included some mistakes. EVERY person & President has made mistakes. I agree with others who've said that there is much more going on in the inner circle of politics than any of us will ever know. Yet we form opinions from what we see on TV & read in newpapers, etc. And sorry to say, but the media is very liberal. Always has been. I'm not saying I agree 100% with everything Bush has done - but what President has ever had that kind of record... NONE, I'm sure. What I am saying is that we need to grow up & be adults - he has had some horrible, tough, mind-wrenching decisions to make; ones that I could NEVER imagine being confronted with. God bless him.
I voted for George Bush twice and am proud of it. He has a tough job to do and he is working toward getting the job done to rid the world of the criminal terrorists. It would be a disaster if Hillary Clinton or Obama becomes our next President. If it wasn't for our military actions in Afghanistan and Iraq, yes, I believe with all my heart that there would have been many more subsequent attacks on American soil. The media is notorious for getting the public riled up and pointing fingers. There is so much corruption in Politics it is unreal. I feel that George Bush is an honorable and honest man and sincerely wants a safer and secure America, and we should all quit the finer pointing and name calling. Take an honost look at yourself in the mirror, I dare you. What exactly do you propose to do yourself to help our county? Just as I thought-NOTHING. So Shut Up and just pray that our Precious Lord guides and protects those that are fighting to keep our country a free and loving nation.
The presidents war my foot! How many voted after 9-11 to go to war?It was a 100% yes vote. Don't you call it his war. It is our war. It is our men, boys, wives and girls over there fighting for OUR FREEDOM! Do you want terrorists all over America blowing things up. How would you like the war to be on American soil? Pull your head out of the sand! I agree with the posting of Marie on 1-24 at 8:48. READ IT. She is right on. I love this country and would fight for it if I have to. I will send my children to war, I will fight for FREEDOM. Those of you who think it is The Presidends war don't know what you want. But I'll bet you want freedom don't you so you can run your sorry little mouth about everything that is WRONG. Instead of looking at what we can do to work together to keep our United States Free. Give it up you are the sqeeky wheel. If you don't want a free country go ahead put Hillary in office. We will be crawling with terrorists within months. Let alone the illegals from Mexico!
p-a couple points of yours need rebutting. 1st, you made the argument that every president has his detractors. This is an insipedly obvious comment. However, what is significant about Bush's present standing is the fact that his approval rating is remarkably below 50%. The vast majority of American's currently disagree with his policies and his handling of the war in Iraq. Given this, and the fact is that his job is to serve and protect the American people first and foremost, I would argue that it is imperative that he respect our wishes. I'm not talking about the wishes of the extreme left, I'm talking about ALL Americans- ALL Americans who are part of the polls that give him such negative ratings. 2nd- you suggested that the people who are writing comments critical of Bush would rather have sat back and let the terrorists do what they want. Please explain how invading Iraq without a suitable plan to develop stability and democratization does anything except create a terrorist breeding ground.
Please explain, all of you people who say that Hillary Clinton (who deserves to be called by her full name or last name like all other politicans-just because she is a woman doens't mean we are all on a first name basis with her) or Barack Obama would be a disaster, why this is the case. As far as I can tell Obama, with his superior intelligence and dignity would actually improve our standing in the world and decrease the likelihood of terrorist attacks. It would be pretty hard for people to call the US racist if we finally elected someone to lead us who wasn't a rich, white man. Though I suppose it is hopeless trying to convince the world we are not racist when we have people talking about the "illegals from mexico" in open forums. Sometimes reflecting on how your words appear to the outside world is a positive thing. This reflection could help a lot of people in this country, including our leaders.
It's REALLY difficult to see read such cynical rhetoric. Our economy is booming, gas prices lower ( and no.not since the 100 days of dems.)our country has not been attacked again since 9/11. our efforts in Iraq have brought to that region, freedom from a dictator, elections for first time. we are helping a nation build a democracy and I read that some of you " don't get it"...get this..President Bush isn't wavering because of polls..he continues to do whats best for our country. What he needs and what we need are for OUR people to support the war effort and pray that we win this thing or YOU won't be ' freely" typing on this site. Instead, you'll be hiding in the hills from attacks, taliban, terrorists, reading the koran and wearing a burka. Wake up and stop listening to Air America and Stephanie Miller.
WHAT IS WITH YOU PEOPLE! YOURE SO PISSED AT THE PRESIDENT WHEN THE TERROISTS AND OTHER MUSLIMS ARE PLANNING ON KILLING MORE AMERICANS. THATS WHO WE SHOULD BE CONCERNED ABOUT. GET OVER IT! WERE IN A WAR, SOMETIMES THATS WHAT YOU GOTTA DO TO DEFEND YOUR COUNTRY. IF I HEAR ONE MORE SICK COMMENT ABOUT OUR PRES IM GOING TO SCREAM. WAR IS NECESARRY, HOW ABOUT WE SUPPORT OUR PRES AND STOP WITH THE COMPLAINING AND WINING.
FREEDOM IS NOT FREE!!!!!
Perhaps even more than the State of the Union, I worry about the state of the presidency!
Some say look at the poles the president is not in good standing with the American people. I say the reason the president is not in good standing is because that is what the media wants people to think. You say other presidents were in better standing but does anyone remember another time in history when the president was tried everyday in the media by people who are trying to get ratings. How can some say that the after effects of Kartina were Bushes fault? It's becuase that is what the media told you. How about do your own research and you will find out that it is the states job to deal with emergencies and they have to legally ask the government for help, which the local leaders did not. I am not saying Fema did a great job but all of a sudden that means it's Bushes fault. You are blaming the wrong people which doesn't fix the problem. I believe the american people need to stop beleiving whatever they hear on TV and think for themsleves. Find out all the facts before you start placing blame.
"mission accomplished" haha
These comments infuriate me. Where are people's memories. Have they forgotten the Iranian Hostage situation in 1980? How about bombing the embassies, The USS Cole, the Marine barracks in Lebanon, the 1st bombing of the Trade Center, how about 9/11? Do you think they don't want to kill us and that if we leave it will stop? The Muslims have said they want us all dead so you better not raise a white flag or you will never know grandchildren. We're fighting in Iraq so we don't fight here. Sadam had WMD's everyone knows that and they were scuttled off to Syria and hidden other places. Congress also voted to go to war but now that it has gotten tough they want no part of it. They have a right to change their minds to fit their polical goal. Give me a break, they saw the evidence too.
If such an event happens again, they will know exactly what to do. Which is to cut out the insults and get down to taking care of business. I was very hurt Katrina/Rita evacuees were not mentioned in the State of the Union. I felt President Bush had forgotten all about us. He has not! The federal govenment is sending financial assistance to Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. Some states have better leaders then others and their recovery is coming along fine. Others will always have a slow recovery because they are too busy still placing blame. Now, I think it was great Katrina\Rita was not mentioned. Too much media attention on a city who can't get it right. The only thing left to do for Louisiana and the City of New Orleans are prays. Just like we must continue praying for our wonderful soliders in Iraq. Thanks!
Bush lie's that all he has done is LIE!I think its funny when they say the troops believe in what they are doing overthere. What do you think there going to say when there Captain is standing over them. And that the troops are staying in because they believe in what they are doing. THEY ARE STAYING IN THE MILITARY BECAUSE THEY ARE GETTING 15,000-20,000 to do so. My husband left 8 days ago and, my little girl's have been crying every night for there daddy. We have three children and if I got a knock at my door. THERE IS NOTHING THEY COULD SAY TO JUSTIFY MY HUSBAND NOT COMING HOME
I don't believe they're staying in just for the money. You're implying that they are ready to risk their lives for 15,000 to 20,000 and leave their families alone. It's more than that. And your husband not coming home - - would it be better that your childrens throats are cut by muslim fanatics?
I applaud your husband for serving this country.
my husband is also serving in iraq. shirl that is really ugly that you can even say that to someone with their husband being gone like that. you obviously dont know how it feels.
My husband was in the military, my father was in the military and my son served 8 years in the military. I do know. And I didn't mean to hurt your feelings but sometimes people have to fight in order to protect the rest.
Jenny I am sure your hurting right now and I know you weren't trying to say that your husband is in the military just for a few thousand dollars. Every soldier I have talked to and know someone who has talked to one has been when they are home away from the superior officers and they still say they believe in what they are doing. They say they don't like being away from their families of course, but some wonder what happened while they were on the plane since the media covers things so differently than it is really happening. I believe our president is doing the right thing and not just because what he says but I try and do my own research so I know more of whats really going on instead of believing what they tell me on TV.
I think many of you are passing judgement on Bush as though you have been in his shoes and faced the same difficult decisions he has faced. I agree he is not perfect and has made some bad decisions, but none of us know what it's like to be in charge of an entire country. The pressure he faces from the entire world is more immense than any of us can imagine. Furthermore, I'm sure none of us are intimately familiar with the issues surrounding every decision he must make, nor do we have access to all of the information he has to make them from. So without knowing exactly what it's like to be in his position, how can you all be so judgmental of him??
I Feel Bush has done a wonderful job...My husband was in Desert Storm and as a VFW he is also in Support of Bush...
I think George Bush thinks and acts like he is a King, not an elected official. He has never listened to the American people regarding Iraq because he has always had his own agenda. I don;t notice his daughters volunteering for his new Citizens group to go to Iraq!
Most of the comments represent how I feel. The President makes decisions based on the "expert opinions" of his cabinet. However, his cabinet is only a reflection of how he feels. He refuses to even entertain the thought of someone else having an objective opinion that may help our situation rather than hinder. He was hired for the job to lead our people not rule them.
I'd like to know, how many of the people, whom are negitive in their remarks, about the SOTU, served in the military. It looks as though, after reading some of the remarks, that most of the remarkers, have forgotten September 11, 2001. People....We ( our nation ) are at War. I remember the 60"s and getting spit on at LAX when I came home from the Nam. Peace, Love, Dove....didn't make it then....and sure as hell, does not make it now. The sooner ya'll wake up,base your thought's from your own free will, instead of the Left's NBC, CBS, ABC, CNBC...ect. The better you will be for it. Read your history's.....we're not in the darkages....we're back in the 30"s...per WWII. There are people out there, at live, every day...coming up with ways, to KILL you, your family and you friends. This is NOT GWB's fault. Mistakes made? YES ! Name me one war, or conflict, that mistakes weren't made. The faster this country comes together, to deal with the people, whom are trying th KILL us all, the better we as a Nation, will be.GBA!
The war is simply a resumption, 14 resolutions and violations of the CEASE FIRE led to the war. Ignoring this is simply a lie. The UN has turned into a joke, talk, talk, talk....no action. It was past time to take action. Why doesn't the media give us the death count on teens killed by crime, gang violence and accidents in the US, just being at home. These kids are not "at war" but we loose more kids in our own back yard than in a war zone. The meda doesn't want to talk about this.
Did anyone actually listen to the rest of the speach???
Our lawmakers need to fix social security now! They should only have the benefits that other working americans have, that might give them the incentive to actually fix it.
Stop taking my money only to give it to people who don't or have ever worked. I see people who have never worked receive Social security disability benefits and yet my friends wife has MS and battled cancer and she's a unit short and can't receive any benefits.
The reason everyone is talking about the war, and how many lives are lost everyday. Is because so many people know of someone overthere, or has been over there, or have lost someone over there. Do you have any idea how it feels to be so scared that you'll never see your loved one again. My heart is full of sadness for my children, and myself, and also for the other like myself going through the same thing. No I'm not going to say its for the 15,000, but I will tell you this if we could make the same money out of the military then we would. And Deb I think your right on him thinking he is a King.
In his words he said "I'm the decision-maker" about sending more troops to the war. Even after so many has told him he is making a big mistake.
So many have told him he is making a big mistakeâand so many families have lost their husbands, wives, uncles, parents to this war....At FITNESS MAGAZINE, we just published a story (in our February issue) that brought tears to my eyes about two women who ran the Army Ten Miler in honor of their husbands, who were killed in Iraq. Their story brought it all home for me and made me realize how wrong this war is.
Irish in Florida I am very negitive about the war. And I was in the USMC when Sept 11th happend. And if you think what we are doing over in Iraq has anything to do with Sept 11th you are wrong.
people, please...look at the facts and resist regurgitating false information...research things on your own and make sure you know what you're talking about before you open your mouth!
So you think we are in Iraq because of Sept 11th. I think Bush said they had WMD, and they did. NO wait they didn't. I guess Bush was WRONG. And he's WRONG again.
It doesn't matter if we stay in Iraq for 2 years or leave now. The result will be the same. Iraq will be in chaos when we depart and it's all our fault that innocent people are being killed. Attacking that country was a mistake.
Attacking a whole country to get rid of X number of "terrorists" was stupid. It is like attacking America to get rid of people who like peanut butter and pickle sandwiches. A small minority. Stupid stupid.
Why didn't we finish the war in Afganistan where we KNEW Osama was for sure? He attacked the Towers with Saudi terrorists. Iraq was an easy target for our anger and we are dispised by world for our shameless behavior.
I really can't believe there are so many people who are so painfully misinformed. It is beyond stupid to make statements about the war in Iraq being "Bush's war." The U.N. and pretty much every other country in the world declared Iraq to be a danger. Terrorists are out to destroy all decent civilization. Bush didn't fly those planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, but he took the war to the terrorists after they did it and he still is taking it to them. You know, other countries may hate America, but it's not because we are bullies or racists. If you even had a clue you would know that our country is probably the LEAST racist and most tolerant country in the world. Pay closer attention to the world news and you may learn something. Ethnic cleansing is going on in Darfur, the Sudan, Yugoslavia, Somalia, the MIddle East (except for Israel). France, England and almost any other country is having horrible race problems, but we're the bady guys. Right.
Guess what for some of you that don't know (Ms. Colorado) we are still fighting in Afganistan too bad you don't hear about it in the news unless someone dies. Iraq was a threat and no it wasn't all about terrorists at first. They did find tons of enriched Uranium (stuff they need to make nulcear weapons)when we first went there, they also had many chances to hide the other weapons which people from Iraq will tell you they did. The Muslim extremist have voiced well before we went to Iraq their wishes to kill all Americans. They wanted to kill us for being Allies with Isreal not for anything we ever did to them before. This war should have been finished with Desert Storm and if we don't finish it now we will be going back to that region again but with the next generation. The fathers of today are fighting so their sons don't have too. How about you support them and the man leading them. United our country is stronger!!
The worst part about this war is that we are fighting it alone. We have some help here and there but this is an international war but everyone else just doesn't want the hastle of war so they let america do all the dirty work maybe you should be mad at them.
When did this country become a country of cowards. You make your decisions based on the bias of the main stream media. Are you too stupid to find out the facts and then make an informed decision. President Bush is so much better than the Clintons, who are worse than thugs and liars. At least Mr. Bush tells it as he sees it whether you like it or not. He doesn't stick his finger in the wind to see what the poltically correct crowd wants to hear. Liberals spread their hate message with no solutions. No wonder they are miserable and want everyone else to be miserable too. What you don't understand is that the Muslim's hate US and that includes liberals and conservatives. When they come to kill US you will die too. I don't think they're going to ask you if you are on their side or not. WAKE UP!!! The only chance we have is a President that will fight for us. I pray every night for President Bush and I know God is leading him in the direction we need to be going.
Bush had good intentions and the war was won, then the terrorists surfaced, unGodly evil monsters from the pit of hell who started violence, and now have pitted the two Iraqi groups against one another. These two groups have never ever gotten along and took a brutal dictator to control them.
It's bad now, but if we leave now it will be much worse and perhaps end up with another dictator or Al Quieda in charge to launch terrorism against U.S. and others. A real dilema. Make no mistake, the Al Quieda is already in the U.S.
NBC NEWS aired "Terror Across The Border" in Los Angeles. Al Quieda trainees flew to Bolivia and one other So. American country a few years ago. They trained for a year to two, learning Spanish and how to speak English with a Mexican Dialect. They learned how to talk, walk, dress and act like Mexicans to fit in to L.A. life and not be detected. They then crossed the Mexican desert into Calif., leaving middle eastern prayer rugs, etc. in the Mexican desert. Al Quieda has planned for lots of years to bring us down. I heard Bin Laden in early 90's tape complaining and threatening America and Israel. He kept repeating that America had killed Iraqi children (sanctions), and never blamed Suddam. He constantly contradicted himself, a crazy male. He and many in middle east want Israel wiped out and America is in their way, this is main reason they have disliked U.S. for so many years.
Ross Perot would have made a great president, he would have won if those who wanted to vote for him did so, he was not on the ballot, yet won 20% of vote as write in. He has good foresight, and predicted that the illegal aliens would rush in by millions if NAFTA was enacted, and it happened. Now, many in other states have no idea how ugly life is for many U.S. citizens in states where illegals are in large numbers. It is not racism at all, it is that many citizens are in big trouble, many losing their homes, living in vehicles or streets, all due to the increase in population which has raised cost of living dramatically and lowered wages. Many have lost their homes, rentals, health, jobs. No money for rent, mortgages, 'medical' insurance, school, etc. Cheapest apartment costs $1000 and up, but you make only $8 to $10 per hr., so you cannot afford a place to live let alone rest of living costs, so people forced to live with relatives or on streets. Many illegals making more than citizens. Send them back!
When you vote in '08 remember that our biggest problems are terrorism and illegal immigration. The Presidents that watched these floods of immigrants are responsible for doing nothing. NAFTA started the second invasion, and Clinton pushed Nafta through. Terrorists crossing open borders, So. American drug cartels crossing borders. California and Arizona extremely crowded so illegals in mass to Oregon and Washington and so on. Our country is quickly losing it's middle class, only 13% of Californians can afford to buy a house now. Homelessness has gone up 50% this year. America will turn into a third world country (as it is in areas here now) if nothing is done to reverse it.
Let me tell you honestly I just left the military and I didn't even watch it. All of it is bullshit. We are too far into Iraq to pull out now.ANd I don't understand why we went. Every other country fought for their freedom from oppressors themselves why are we in there trying to save cowards. they can fight against the people trying to help them, but they couldn't fight against the man killing them because of their religion. Iraq is a waste of time. We should have been in Afghanstan where Bin Laden is not Iraq. ANd as far as the immagration. Make them leave until they do the proper paperwork to be legal why is that so hard. Why do they feel the need to get rights they did not earn. I can barely afford to pay for myself to go to college why would I want to pay for healthcare and everything else for these poeple. The american dream is to be free to EARN the way of life they want. Not have it given to them.
Right on sweetgem we should have gone to Afghanstan to get Bin Laden, not Iraq. I think its so funny how people think were all going to die if we pull out of Iraq. There has always been Torrorists, and if you think will stop them all, just being in Iraq your silly. Bush has you all so scared. If you think we should be over there then YOU GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its easy to say stay, when your not the one seeing your best friend beside you die. Hoping you wont be next, and if your family will be ok if you don't come home. What are you thinking better there then here. Please stop and think about what your thinking, we will never be able to kill all the Terrorists in the world. Terrorists are not only in Iraq. Now what are you thinking, we need to take a stand, show them we are not scared, once again please they don't care. I think you better join the military quick, because we have lots terrorists to take care of, in lot of diff countrys. Stop reading this and JOIN NOW!! I did 4 yrs in the Marine Corps
I appreciated President Bush's careful consideration of ALL sides of a subject. He's not swayed by public opinion and stand firm on what he believes is the best for America. I think he is the BEST and RIGHT President for this time in our country.
I don't understand the animosity towards him, and can see it's more of a mob mentality...the protests and all...it's like one or two people start it and others mindlessly join. It seems as if the american public is spoonfed opinions by the press and they just eat it up without researching subjects on thier own.
i appreciate the freedom to speak and talk and think and act, and I UNDERSTAND this is not a FREE thing..maybe others should reconsider thier freedoms and how come they can be so volitale and nasty without harm
Hello we did go to Afganistan as a matter of fact we are still there. We had to go to Iraq because no one else would inlcuding the UN who's job it was. It has turned into a war with terrorists and we do have to win. I agree about having to secure our borders, living in Arizona I know first hand what it is like for wages to be low and taxes be high to cover medical expenses for illegal immigrants that cross our border. How many people know that they can walk into any hospital and get medical attention and not pay a dime but yet I can't afford to take my own children even with insurance becuase it's so expensive. Just recently a law was passed so they wouldn't get welfare and some people tried to say it was unfair. I pay taxes to pay for that welfare and they don't so they have no right to recieve the help.I think they should be able to come out here but legally. There is a church organization here that gives them maps on the safest way and puts water in the desert for them.
Sorry to say Bush is not in touch with reality. Protect us here first, feed our hungry first, quit signing away our borders with Canada and Mexico, make immigrants do it the time honored legal way, and just because a child is born here under illegal circumstances should not make our taxes pay all of its care. I am working with the homeless here that have no real place to stay warm nor do they have food. It really is NOT available in every community to AMERICANS.. Time to fix us before we try to police the entire world when our own land is being sold off quietly snd other nationalities rush here in droves illegally and we just keep putting our grandchildren in further debt.
I say if that church really wanted to help them they would stand at the border and tell them no don't do it this way and use their resources to help them do it legally. Don't get me started on welfare and how it should be used for temporary assistance and not for long term laziness.
I was in the military during Desert Storm. Both my sons have done their part too. One is still in & was just deployed over the week-end. He is proud to be doing his part in protecting our country. Being a single mom most of my life, I don't agree with the welfare system. People on welfare should have to do some kind of work, whether it is mopping floors of picking up trash along the roads. And as for the illigals. Send them back home to go the legal processes.
I agree people on welfare should be put to work. Maybe doing those jobs that they say we need illegals for. Did you know that people on wlefare eat better than most of the working class. They always have more food than they need and they can get steak and other expensive food.
For those of you who lambaste the American media as liberal or anti-Bush, you may want to consider that since the Internet, many of us read news published beyond US borders. The India Times, the BBC, Montreal Gazette, FranceDaily.com, etc. There are even come countries who, while they big-brother their newspaper and radio, specifically do not regulate their Internet news (see www.malaysia-today.net). Each is written in English or has an English option.
Screaming about US media being liberal is a waste of energy. Read all these publications and you will find our media gentle lambs when it comes to Bush.
It doesn't matter what other countries say and print about our president but that fact that our own country can print a story they haven't fully investigated only because it bashes Bush or his agenda. Our own newspapers and news reports should report the full story and then maybe other countries will see us in a better light.
i for one think he is doing a horrible job not only did he put our country in war but its a war not only that we cant win but now can't get out of it atrocious this man is a certifiable idiot! i for one am soooo glad i didnt vote for him! and to think he got voted in twice!!! absouloutly rediculous shame on the ppl for electing this man not just once but twice!
W I don't know why you think the news isn't telling you the full story. You should be more focused on the fact that Bush has never told the full story!!!!!!!!
I hate 2 hear people say that our enemies are watching to see if we back down. We'd have no enemies to speak of if we hadn't forced our way into another country just 4 the hell of it! Sure there have always been Anti-American sentiments, but never so bold as to attack us in media...result of Bush's stubborn foreign policy? 9/11 was a tragic event and we needed to take action, but do the necessary homework b4 u send the country into war!!! Know who our enemies are & be clear about a strategy for entering, winning and exiting...period!
Don't lie, then be so stubborn as to not take criticism. "Stay the course" is NOT a plan of action...it's a cowardice statement by someone who refuses to admit his wrongdoing!!!
Let's clean up our mess and get the hell out.
p.s..my father is Muslim & he's no more concerned w/killing people and converting the world to Islam as some people think!!! Contrarily, most Muslims are peaceful and denounce the rash of attacks on innocents. Get the facts straight. No wonder we're hated
